Must-sees on Tram 12 route

이미지
Taking Tram 12 from the starting poin t to the last stop only takes 20 minutes. It starts from Figueira Square, which has a statue of John I who fathered the navigator Henry. You can check out all the stops and what to see. (1) Martim Moniz  The first stop. You can see people lining up to take Tram 28. Martim Moniz Square is known to be very multi-cultural, especially at night. (2) Socorro (3) Largo Terreirnho => Just nothing that special happen. (4) Rua Lagares If you are into Alfama, the tram now passes through it. (5) São Tomé Love Fado? Then you know the legendary Queen of Fado Amalia Rodirigues . This stop has her portrait  by Vhills . It's a must-see. (6) Largo Portas Sol So famous that I am sure you know what to do here. Get off the tram to see the best viewpoint in Lisbon. You can access  São Jorge Castle (the castle of St. George) here but it's quite an uphill walk. (7)  Miradouro Santa Luzia   The view is much bet...

With bad knees, where to enjoy great views of Lisbon for free?

There are many lookouts here in Lisbon. Take tram 28 or better yet tram 12 to go to one of them in Lisbon downtown. Or taking a funicular all the way up and down is fun but it's kind of overpriced. And the line is always expected. Then there is another free and easy way to watch the beautiful orange roofs. Most travelers know Square D. Pedro IV as  the Rossio Square . From there only 5 minutes on foot with no uphill can take you to my best two spots. Rossio Square (1) At the Rossio Train Station From the square, walk up to the Restaudores Metro station . Easy walk with no uphill at all. Take the escalators all the way up and get out. And you can see  ST. GEORGE'S CASTLE . (2) At the Chiado Armazens On the top level of the armazens, there are free, clean toilets. The view from the bathroom is just breathtaking. I love this view. view from the bathroom  You can avoid any hill. From the Rossio sqaure, take Rua Aurea Pass the santa...

Tram 28 vs Tram 12

이미지
Traveling here in Lisbon, everybody seems to take Tram 28. Starting point of  Tram 28  is always crowded and a long line is expected. Well, in my case, I prefer Tram 12. Starting point of Tram 12  is not that crowded. It covers only 4 kilometers but goes to all the major places. Let's compare their routes. Tram 28 Tram 12  As you can see from both pictures, Tram 12 covers Praça da Figueira, Martim Moniz, the Miradouro das Portas do Sol, the Miradouro de Santa Luzia, cathedrals and more. Besides it only takes 20 minutes to go through all the stops. I linked info on Tram 28 and Tram 12 so you can decide whatever you like. I usually remind my guests staying at the airbnb to take Tram 12 to wrap up their visits at the end of their journey. After staying in Lisbon for days, it's a good way to refresh all the fun memories you have shared with your friends and family. Only 20-minute-ride but it can leave imprints on you...

Watching the change of the guards at the Belem district.

이미지
The best time to visit Lisbon is on the third Sunday of each month. On that special day, make sure to go to the Belem district. Last Sunday, I went there as the guests at my airbnb wanted to visit the area. They had a blast and so did I. The ceremony lasted about 45 minutes. I especially liked watching the marching band on horsebacks. I recorded the beginning, the middle and the end of the ceremony. I hope you enjoy the video. Changing the guard at Belem palace has a 10-step program. The following is from the flyer I got at the ceremony. (1) Beginning of the ceremony with 'Royal Entries' (2) The guard on duty forms up in front of the palace (3) Arrival of the new guard (4) National anthem (5) Changeover of sentries (6) Arrival of the mounted troopers and delivery of the code words (7) Performance by the symphonic band and fanfare (8) The mounted troopers leave the palace (9) March of the old guard (10) The new guard marches towards the palace march...

Troubleshooting while staying comfortably at home.

Welcome. I hope you love my house as much as I do. I bought the house from a developer and everything is almost new and hightech. However, with hightech gadgets, there might be something you need to get used to. (1)  Shower in the master bedroom It is such a nice high-tech shower. With all the digitalization, it is wonderful to set the temperature and so on. Once in a while it shows the redscreen saying  E-4 . Don't panic and just go to the circuit breaker panel next to the elevator. Open it and you will see this picture. circuit breaker panel Find  TOM.WC.  Flick it down and wait ten seconds. And then flick it upward. Then you are ready to enjoy hot showers. (2)  Dishwasher.  Please only use the soap 'Finish Brillo' I left my soap inside the dishwasher, so you can use it for the time being. When it runs out, please buy 'Finish Brillo.' If you use different type of dishwasher soap, then the machine will break down. ...

What to do on Monday, here in Lisbon. A lot~

Almost all the museums are closed on Monday. So don't go to the Belem district on Mondays. You can't enjoy any free access so it's sort of waste to use your Lisboa card . Then what should you do, you may wonder? (1) Enjoy your walk on Edward VII Park to Amalia Rodrigues Garden . Listening to the queen of Fado while taking a stroll can be a good way to pay respect to Amalia Rodrigues. Edward VII Park is a wonderful place to visit day and night. (2) In the garden, there's a Michelin one-star restaurant, Eleven? The address is Rua Marquês de Fronteira, Jardim Amália Rodrigues. You can google it easily. They have special prices on weekday lunch.  Two dishes per person are only 28 euros. Three dishes per person are only 35 euros. Quite reasonable. As of Jan. 18 2019 this special deal is still on. Just in case, you can contact them directly.  11@restauranteleven.com Phone: +351 21 386 22 11 (3) Go to Gubenkian musuem . Unlike othe...

Sunday with children, how about Gulbenkian museum?

이미지
Gulbenkian museum offers free entrance to all visitors on Sundays after 2 p.m. It's about three kilmometers from my house. So when you use taxify app, it usually costs around 4 euros. Before you go over to the museum, I strongly suggest downloading all the info on your smartphone. Go to any app store you know and just search for Gulbenkiam musuem. CONTACTS & INFORMATION 10:00 – 18:00. Closed on Tuesdays. Av. de Berna, 45A, 1067-001 Lisbon museu@gulbenkian.pt Close to Gulbenkian, there is a department store called El Corte Inglés . The website shows all the info They even offer direct tax refund and probably you already have info on this place.  When you pick up a booklet called Follow Me Lisboa at the info center, the map is inserted inside.  That map is sponsored by this department store, so it has its info.
