Peacocks at Portuguese park

Wherever you go in Portugal, it's easy to find peacocks strutting freely at the parks. When I saw them walking around the park at first, I was taken aback as I had only seen them at the zoo inside the cage. Seeing them around the parks and castles so often, now I got used to them. Before I was kind of afraid of getting close to them. Now I am not. Why are there so many peacocks all over Portuguese parks? I wonder. So I looked it up. There were some clues I could find. It represents 'eternity' as a religious symbol. It also means the solar system with its tails' 'eyes' representing the celestial dome. Sometimes it is used as a coat of arms. Peacocks are thought to represent 'beauty' and 'pride.' Its splendor means 'royalty,' too. Maybe thanks to its symbolism, there are many peacocks wandering around here in Portugal.
