things to see around Cais do Sodré

Cais do Sodré is a station where you take the train to Cascais.
And you can also take a ferry to cross the Tejo river.

Around the station, there are some interesting murals.

There is an interesting azulejo you shouldn't miss inside the metro station Cais do Sodré. It is a rabbit from the famous book Alice in Wonderland.

The name Cais do Sodré came from the Sodré brothers who used to own a lot of lands around here.
It means the pier of Sodré brothers.
There are comfortable chairs right next to the station where you can enjoy the sun and peace.

(1) Time out

A magazine company called Time out bought the Ribeira Market
and use it as a food court and a market.
The market usually closed around 2 in the afternoon
so if you want to see it open, get there before that time.

(2) Dom Luis Garden
Right next the market is a garden called Dom Luis named after King Luis.
If you have been to Porto, you must be familiar with the bridge called Dom Luis, also named after King Luis.

In this garden there is a figure in the middle.
It represents Visconde de Sá da Bandeira who worked for Queen Maria II during the civil war.

Right next to the garden, don't miss the artwork of Bordalo II.
His works are also in Belem and Oriente in Lisoba and Cascais.

Next Bordalo II, you can see some murals and a beautiful and interesting building.
I just love taking pictures here.

(3) The third Duke statue.

 Anybody knows his name?
I asked around but no one knows his name for sure.
The only thing I found out is he also participated in the civil war between Pedro IV and his brother Miguel during the civil war like Visconde de Sá da Bandeira.

(4) Pink street
This place is full of life at night.
However, as I can't drink,
I have never been here at night.

(5) Bica Funicular
You can take the funicular all the way up to visit the viewpoint.

At the viewpoint, there is also a pharmacy museum.
Have you seen a movie, "A night train to Lisbon?"
And you are a fan of it?
Then you must also visit the hotel.
It was the house and practice of the doctor in the movie
but now it became a five star hotel.

Santa Catarina viewpoint is still undergoing renovation.
