Following 'Night Train to Lisbon'

Based on Pascal Mercier's book Nachtzug nach Lissabon,
the movie takes you to this lovely city, Lisboa.

This picture is from IMDB.

In 2013, when I saw it for the first time,
I never imagined I would live here and now.
The only reason I encountered this treat at that time
was I had a huge crush on Jeremy Irons.

Haven't seen this film yet and want to learn more?

 from IMDB
Jeremy Irons, isn't he dreamy?

Just click here and watch the trailer.

Ever since I took root here in this city,
I have been combing all over Lisbon for the traces.

Visitors around the world are also wandering and wondering whereabouts.
If you are one of them,
here are all the answers you've been searching for.

Roaming the streets, I couldn't find some.
It took me many trips to cover all the places.

I don't want you to miss any spot,
so I linked all the locations on the google map.

Once named after dictator Salazar, the bridge was renamed as April 25th after the revolution.

To learn about the April 25th revolution,
please check out the museums before moving on to the next journey.
(1) Museu do Aljube
(2) Guarda Nacional Republicana

Now let's follow the footsteps from the movie.

1) Lisboa - Rossio train station.
Jeremy Irons[Raimund] arrives at this station from Swiss Berin.

(2) Monumento aos Restauradores
Leaving the Rossio station, you can see this square.

(3) Steep stairs at Bairro Alto
Looking for a place to stay, Jeremy Irons climbs these stairs.

Alcantara viewpoint

(4) Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara
Climbing all the way here from the Rossio Station~
No wonder he devours water from the water fountain.
Very steep.
Should you have a bad knee, take Gloria funicular instead.

(5) Elevador da Bica
Some people complain its location doesn't make sense.
Well, it's a movie so let's give it a break.
The route of Bica funicular shows off one of the most beautiful scenery in Lisbon.

(5) The hotel at Chiado
Jeremy finally finds a hotel to stay.
This spot appears several times in the movie,
the lovely local optician driving him here.

(6) Amadeu's house and practice
Right next to the famous Miradouro de Santa Catarina.
You may easily spot this place on your way to the viewpoint.

Martim Moniz square
here starts the famous Tram 28 route~

(7) Tram 28
Jeremy takes this tram to go visit Amadeu on his tomb.
Always expect a long line as the tram represents Lisbon.
Be careful with your belongings and watch out for pickpocketers!

(8) Cemitério dos Prazeres
At the final stop of Tram 28.
Of course, you don't need to go see the cemetery
but there is a famous Basílica da Estrela around.
It makes worth the visit.

Rua Augusta

(9) Rua Augusta
Jeremy buys some clothes here.
This place has everything you need.
A beautiful street to shop and enjoy street performances.

(10) Belem River Station
Here Jeremy and his lady friend takes a boat ride to see Jorge, Amadeu's friend.

(11) Hospital de Sant'Ana
After the boat ride, they meet Jorge here.

(12) Convento Da Cartuxa
Amadeu and Jorge studied at this strict Catholic school.

(13) Jorge's pharmacy
Well-to-do Amadeu gives this shop to Jorge as a token of their friendship.

(14) Lisboa Santa Apolónia Train station
After all the questions are answered,
Jeremy comes here to get back to Bern.
It's is the oldest train station in Portugal.

Does our protagonist get back to his old life in Bern?
Or stay here in Lisbon?
What do you think?
