history mural, a must see at Portas do sol

Almost everybody who gets on the Tram 28 seems to get off at Portas do sol station.
It is just beautiful there.


The views are excellent.
It is usually filled with music and people.
Such vitality.
You feel alive there especially when the weather is sunny.


There is a must-see at Portas do sol.
To access public toilets, you take the stairs down.
And voila.
You see this amazing mural covering all over, explaining the true history of Lisbon.

My Portuguese is just good enough to understand the story.
So here is some info on the first three.
5 BC. Aliis-Ubbo, meaning "Safer port"
for Phoenician merchants.
Ulysses is a legend and has nothing to do with this.

To add some more info,
Lisbon is said to have seven hills
because Queen Ofiússa who got jilted by Ulysses
became so angry
that her fury turned the plains into seven hills in Lisbon.

1 AD, during the Roman period,
Lisbon was called Felicitas Ivlia Oslisipo.
There is a Roman Theater Museum you can visit anytime.
The location is near Portas do Sol.

The museum offers free entrance for all during Sunday Morning.
outside the museum, the theater itself is always free to enter



Everyday including Sunday, they offer guided tours.

Between 468 and 711,
Lisbon was called Olisipona.
It went through looting and destruction by the Germans for almost three hundreds.
In 585, the Visigothic kingdom maintained Catholicism which was adopted through the Suebi.

It was way before the first Portuguese King Afonso I founded Portugal in 1138.
