Lisbon metro, the fastest way to get around.

Heading downtown, I always walk.
It's an easy walk as my house is not all the way up on the hill.

However, coming back, I usually take the metro.
There are many buses but the subway is the fastest way to get home.
It usually runs from 6:30 to 1 a.m. but the schedule may change.

So if you want to go out at night and head back home-away-home late,
then click here to make sure when the last train is.

It's a blessing to ride an escalator after a long day of walking.

Even after strolling through the nooks and crannies of Lisbon hills, you may want to use an elevator instead of stairs, especially with bad knees.

Some metro stations in Lisbon do have elevators and escalators.
Before lugging a heavy bag or babystroller,
please plan ahead and check the wheelchair signs on the metro map first.

As you can see, all the metro stations on the RED LINE have elevator access.
It's either at the end or in the middle, so you have to look for the sign.

Many travelers from the airport transfer at Alameda station to head downtown.
While carrying heavy bags, it may be harder to look for the elevator.
So people just take stairs.

Seeing moms and travelers struggling,
I decided to take a closer look at Alameda station.

The red line has an elevator in the middle about 3 meters from the stairs.
The green line at Alameda station has an elevator at the end, right by the stairs.

When you get to the Alameda station, you can ride the elevator to exit or transfer to the Green line.
Inside it, there are three buttons.
0 means the Red Line, 1 the Green Line, 2 the outside exit.
To transfer to the Green, press 1, get off and you will see the escalator.

Take it upstairs, make a right and go on until you see another escalator.
Ride it all the way and the green line will be in sight.
On your left hand, there are stairs to downtown tourist spots and on your right, you can take the elevator.

If you're not sure which elevator will take you which way, just look for the sign.

Arroios is the closest to my house, but it is undergoing some renovations right now.
That's why it is marked with RED X

"Don't let pickpockets catch you"
And take a note of the phone number 21 342 16 23 just in case.
