From Comercio Square to the Castle, use two free elevators.

From Comercio Square to Saint Jorge castle,
you can take a bus or ride a tram 12 or 28.
However, it can take a while waiting for the bus or tram to arrive.
That's why it is faster to walk up there.

Uphill walking is not easy for some one with bad knees.
So there are free elevators for the residents and travelers from outside.

(1) Santa Maria Maior elevator
It is run by Junta de Frequesia of STA. Maria Maior.

But when you google Santa Maria Maior elevator,
it will show you the location of Santa Justa Elevator
as part of Santa Maraia Maior used to be called Santa Justa.
So instead google Elevador Castelo.

(2) Elevador da Baixa
When you get out of the Castle elevator,
you will see the sights below.
Find the sign for the supermarket Pingo Doce.

As you can see from the photo above,
without the help of the elevator,
you have to climb the stairs all the way up.
It can take a toll on your knees.

When you get off the elevator, take a left
and turn around.
You will see the beautiful view of Lisbon.

Then head to the castle.

Pass by Chapito and then at the fork
turn left and just follow the sign to the castle.

Enjoy your view up in the castle.
The sunset there is just amazing,
even though it is hard to catch the beauty
with my phone camera.
