Heralding 2019 with spectacular fireworks.

Watching fireworks is fun but going back to your home-away-home may not be that fun.

Look at the crowd. It's a mayhem.

There are three most populated firework spots in Lisbon.

1. Comercio Square(Praça do Comércio)
Getting to Comerico Square can be challenging.
There are security check points to avoid any unfortunate incidents.
If you get there too late, it will take a long time to access the square
and in worst case, you might not get in at all.

Right after the fireworks, a lot of people want to say hello to their loved ones who are not at the square with them.
So your mobile phone might not work for about 10 minutes just like mine last night.
Don't panic. It will work soon enough.

Right after the fireworks, it's impossible to hail a taxi or use a Uber service. Sometimes you can't even find your own car because it can be disorienting with all the people yelling and pushing each other. Just TOO MUCH.

Better hang out at the square for an hour and then head to the metro.
Terreiro do Paço metro station is closed so Baixa-Chiado metro station is the closet metro from the square.

Lisbon metro usually stops its service at around 1 AM, but this special day it operates throughout the night, except yellow line.

2. Belem Tower
Less crowded than the square, but there is no metro station nearby.
Unless your home-away-home is right by Belem Tower, it may be difficult to get home.

3. Nations Park(Parque das Nações)
Personally I think this is the best place to enjoy the fireworks right by the Tejo river.
Easy access from the Oriente metro station and less crowded than Comercio and Belem.

Since it's quite a big place, you might wonder where you can enjoy the spectacular fireworks. Just get out of the metro and head to the riverside.
Then follow the music. There is a live music stage close to Myriad hotel.
That's the place people gather and herald 2019.

These places are all VERY VERY crowded so after fireworks, just remain there, dancing to upbeat music, drinking champagne or just watching people having fun.
After one hour or so, it will quiet down and become much easier to access the metro or if you are lucky, you might grab a taxi.

Feliz ano novo.

Want to see 2019 fireworks, here it is.
