Filigree museum, it's a gem.

Wearing traditional clothes in Korea gets you free admission to all the palaces.
There are a lot of shops to rent a various kind of traditional clothes
so you can dress up as a king, queen, princess or just anyone you like.
It's fun seeing people dressed up in colorful dresses inside the palaces,
making you feel as if you time-traveled to the past.

Here in Lisbon, I don't get to see beautiful traditional Portuguese dressees.
Only seeing them on some parade or rare occasions,
I goggled 'portugal traditional dress museum' to learn more about them.

National Museum of Costume (Portugal) is inside Monteiro-Mor Palace with a collection of 33.000 items.
I wanted to go over there
but since it wasn't close to any metro station,
I decided to try filigree museum first.
(Still planning to visit national museum of costume~)

At first I wondered why the google search showed me this place
when I checked 'traditional dress museum' because it only has two dresses.

However, visiting the filigree museum was such a blessing.
It's a small museum and shop
and they offer free entrance and free guided tours.
Learning so much about filigree and Portuguese artisans, I was very impressed.

Queen like earrings evoke the image of feminine figure.
It has a round part in the middle, swinging separately.
This part symbolizes a son, attached to mom but still independent.

The queen of fado was a patroness of filigree jewelry.
That's why nowadays fado singers wear filigree earrings or necklaces.

Hoop earrings show your status and age.
The higher your status is and the older you are, the bigger hoops become.

The most interesting to me is the bead necklace.
When a girl is born in Portugal, she is given a bead.
Each year on her birthday, she gets one more bead at a time.
So later she ends up with a beach necklace.

This info is from the guided tour of the nicest man in the shop.

If you want to visit or learn more about this cozy museum,
here is the website.

This place gets 5.0 from tripadvisor as of today.
